Ni hao 你好 (Hello)
This morning we woke up at 5:30am. After not eating dinner the night before, we were eager to feed the beast that was living inside us. By 6:30 we were ready to venture around town searching for coffee. We walked around for an hour and then realized that this city doesn't wake up until after 9 o'clock, Really? 9am for a cup of coffee? I don't know how I would operate in the states without a cup of coffee until after 9am. And restaurants aren't open yet either. So, we find ourselves at a McDonald at 7:45am sharing a breakfast sandwich and an orange juice. It was ok. Nothing special. It was that or food from Circle K. Yes, Circle K is here in Hong Kong.
9 o'clock rolls around and we find ourselves hiking up to catch a tram up to Victoria Peak. The view is amazing. Grabbed our tickets for $83 HKD, then a tram that took us up to the top of Mt. Austin aka Victoria Peak. Up at the top we looked out north towards Victoria Harbor and south at Kowloons beautiful Telegraph Bay. It is crazy how big this city is.
After spending a hour at the top of the peak, we wondered around town in search for amazing "Dim Sum". The first place we were going to was inside of a mall. I thought to myself "why would a good Dim Sum restaurant be inside of a mall?" The GPS said that we have arrived at our location. We looked up and see nothing but a crowd of people swarming around a restaurant that I'm assuming was Tim Ho Wan. I said no. Absolutely not! We walked down a little ways and to our right was a Japanese bakery. Katie picked up what was called a "Long Weiner Roll," and laughed. We ate it and continued searching for Dim Sum.
30 minutes later we ended up standing in line at "Dim Sum Square." We were seated moments later and the fat kid inside of me was very happy. Finally, Dim Sum! After a long few minutes our food arrived. The Dim Sum was amazing. Katie loved their Xiaolongbao (soup dumplings). Me? I loved everything. What can I say? $20 later I left Dim Sum Square with a smile on my face. It was everything I hoped it would be.
3:00pm. We made it back to our room. Katie's on google hangout on a video call with Momma Jean. We're in the future. It's 11pm Christmas Day back home. After chit chatting a bit, we ended our night with a "Merry Christmas." Good Night Portland, Oregon!
